About Framing Hands

Framing Hands is an outlet for my imagination, thoughts, and ideas. I love travelling and taking photographs. When I am not on the road, I work in the visual effects and animation industry, so professionally and personally speaking, my life evolves around creating beautiful images, be they stills or moving pictures. I am very fortunate that I have been able to pursue jobs and interests I am so excited about, and that I could visit so many beautiful places and meet fascinating people. And now I would like to share all this with you as well as any knowledge I picked up on the way.

About me

My name is Richard Simko. I was born behind the Iron Curtain in Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia) in 1971. I studied IT and now I earn my livelihood as a digital artist. I discovered my passion for photography quite late in life when I bought my first SLR camera in 2000 for a trip to Australia. I realized there was more to photography than ordinary snaps. Since then, my photographic gear is always with me on my travels. I enjoy documenting life, people, and places as I see them through my lens. Although I am an amateur, I put lot of time and resources into making the photos look good. I have always enjoyed the documentary style of photographers like Steve McCurry or James Nachtwey, and I wish one day my photographs will have a similar impact as theirs.

About giving back

During my travels, I often encounter places and people that seem to have been forgotten by the rest of the world. My personal mission is to raise awareness about various social issues by letting the rest of the world see through my images, spoken or written words as well as actions. I am already involved in the fight against sex slavery and human trafficking: I used to donate to Save The Children, and at the moment I am a regular financial donor to the Somaly Mam Foundation.
